Significance of Story
The story is important to the Medieval Time period because it highlights the value of loyalty through love. The wife grieved but it is impending on how the patience of love can expand further. The way it’s important to modern society is in the same sense of faith and loyalty. People can fall out of love, but loyalty comes first in a relationship, especially if they can find common ground. Examples of dramatic irony in the story include when the wife cheats on her husband. The reader knows of this before the husband finds out. Verbal irony in the story is when the wife promises to remain faithful to her husband but ends up with her choosing to cheat. Situational irony occurred when the wife chose to create a relationship with the squire even though she was already married.
